Bio

Sarah Davis has been either practicing or teaching graphic design for over 20 years. Blending her interests in teaching and the arts, she earned an Associate degree in Graphic Design, a BFA in Illustration and an MS degree in Instructional Leadership.

As a Senior Instructor at Pittsburgh Technical Institute, Sarah combines sound educational approaches with her passion for design to help students learn the skills they need to succeed in their field of study and move on to contribute to the graphic design discipline as professionals.

In 2006, Pittsburgh Technical Institute honored Sarah with the PTI C.O.R.E Award for her exceptional commitment to students and promotion of industry-based activities. Sarah regularly participates in PTI faculty art shows and has earned first and second place awards for her entries. She also participates in various graphic design and art shows, including an exhibit at the Brew House in Pittsburgh's South Side.

Prior to her teaching career, Sarah worked as a graphic designer and art director at various advertising agencies in the Pittsburgh area. Her experience includes retail advertising, corporate design, promotion, internal communications, small business identity development and branding. Sarah participated in the entire process from the initial concept and carefully managed the jobs through to final printing and client satisfaction. Long before computers were so integral to graphic design, you could find Sarah working closely with printers to push the boundaries of what was possible to achieve when moving from mechanical to press.

Sarah's true love of drawing and illustration keep her active in the arts. She is also interested in the healing arts. As a Reiki Master practitioner, she helps shelter animals heal physically, psychologically and emotionally and volunteers as a dog walker and cat handler for local animal welfare organizations. Sarah also volunteers at Animal Advocates Thrift Store in Pittsburgh's West End where all proceeds go to support animal welfare.

Her additional interests in reading, writing, poetry and the philosophical study of being and knowing have launched her into a new direction. Sarah is currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Metaphysics. Her holistic approach to communication and the interrelationship and blending together of experiences from varying backgrounds and belief systems allows her to integrate her studies and interests into any classroom or client solution with a deep and lasting impact.
